Substack is a platform where writers get to be vulnerable, right?
The month of March humbled me harder than Idina Menzel’s name appearing on John Travolta’s teleprompter.
My hopes were high and my pitches were launched into the inboxes of folks I was really hoping to hear from—an illustrator, a footwear designer, a Super Bowl backup dancer—about fashion stories I really wanted to report for
.Aside from the very polite and perfectly understandable decline for an interview I received from Blaze Brooks (His work is amazing. Go check him out.) everyone I reached out to over the past month and a half left me on read.
It’s okay, of course. Rejection is a big part of life—and this gig. Not everyone wants to give an interview, share a soundbite, or participate in a story. Sometimes you win ‘em over, and sometimes you don’t, but you don’t take it personally.
You just keep pitching.
I appreciate you hanging with me as I continue to chase stories I’m passionate about reporting, and I’m excited to share some new pieces soon. In the meantime, I wanted to close out March with my top 5 fashion moments of the month.
Crack is Whack Chic
Zoë Kravitz gave audiences a cheeky surprise at the 2025 Vanity Fair post-show Oscar Party earlier this month with a rhinestone-encrusted Saint Laurent gown featuring a perfectly-placed peephole back there. As a shock to no one, she pulled it off flawlessly. Must be the daughter-of-a-fashion-icon thing.
It’s not the only spotlight on the derrière we’ve seen lately in fashion. Dilara Findikoglu’s Autumn/Winter 2025 collection which dropped in February included a sculptural, figure-hugging look featuring the illusion of a bare bum. You know what they say: Twice is a coincidence, three times is a trend.
Are butt cracks the new décolletage?
Converse Debuts the Wave Trainer
If you’re a Converse loyalist who dreams of being a chunky New Balance person, you’re in luck. Earlier this month Converse dropped the new Wave trainer, inspired by classing running styles. The kicks come in a handful of color combos and are designed to have—according to the brand— that “retro 90s” look. 90s? Retro, you say?!?

Fur Made a Runway Comeback
Earlier this month the Business of Fashion reported that fur—which practically disappeared from luxury runways following consumer outrage—is back in a big way.
“For the longest time, fur was completely shunned by the industry. Even using faux fur was a risk because you wouldn’t want people to think that it’s real, God forbid,” Mandy Lee, a trend analyst and content creator told Business of Fashion in a March story. “I haven’t run the numbers, but I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if we were looking at more than 50 percent of all collections including some kind of fur this season.”
Animal lovers can breath easy, though. Most of the fur pieces we’ve seen this season are still being made from synthetic materials.
Ib Kamara To Leave DAZED
After 4 years as Editor-In-Chief, fashion favorite Ib Kamara is departing DAZED. His last issue will be in June.
The industry has largely praised Kamara’s tenure at DAZED, particularly the way he used the magazine as a vehicle to spotlight emerging artists and makers. He retains his role as Art and Image Director of Off-White™, where he continues to drive innovation.
Forever 21 is Done (Probably)
Last call for going out dresses and retina-burning shopping bags with hidden bible verses! Earlier this month, Forever 21 filed for bankruptcy for a 2nd time and it looks like this could be the end of the fast fashion retailer.
According to a CNBC report, the retailer’s operating company is “expected to cease all operations in the U.S. and has already begun liquidation sales at its more than 350 locations.”
Court filings show that the retailer is open for bids, so there’s a chance the stores could survive if the right buyer comes along. As of yet, no deal has been struck.
I guess nothing lasts forever.
